LoVe ChArMs

Back to the mosaic topic for a bit. A while back I designed (drew) a mosaic path to my front door. My friend said she would teach me mosaic, and she did. I made two paving stones. paver has a rooster (what else), the other one has a Love Charm (what else : ).

The rooster paver was made using broken dishes and pottery that I collected. My friend said I made a picture, or a scene. I said, hmmm, ok... It's a sunrise scene. Good morning happy world : )

I like the way the stones turned out, but the experience was weird. The medium is hard... And sharp... OUCH! Such a difference from working with soft, tactile, comforting fabrics. I found it a great challenge, because I find so much inspiration from the texture of the materials I use. Maybe if I used glass tiles that are smooth, shiny, and reflect light, I would find more inspiration in them. I do like the look of the glass tiles... forget the exact name of them, but they are pretty, and rather retro looking....

I used some very cool buttons, and a LOVE charm, in this paver...some buttons that I have used before in clothing. I had collected these buttons for a long time, and I recall the clothes that their mates were attached to. These clothes went to happy homes. (if you can, you should click on the pic below to see it enlarged!)
The buttons are now a permanent fixture in my garden. The materials in this paver were much softer to work with, but still the medium is rough and yang.
This is Funny Face and Pink Piggy with Wings. A few years ago I learned how to set fence posts in the ground with concrete. I made a few things with the leftover concrete, and this is one of the pieces. I have been collecting beach glass, and broken stuff for years. I looked in my stash, and this face appeared. It's kinda cute, and it watches over my front garden for me. My brother dragged Pink Piggy out of a ditch for me, in the rurals of the region...

...ooops, Funny Face, and Flying Pink Piggy keeps getting lost, so I'll have to add it another day... this is a full week, and I have to make wedding party garments in three days (just got the last measurements today!!) zzzzzzzzz.
